I recently visited Kawah Ijen volcano in Java, and let me tell you, it’s a fascinating place! Kawah Ijen volcano, in Java Island, is famous because of its blue crater lake. Standing high at 2,799 meters, it feels like it’s touching the sky!
At night, the atmosphere turns magical, and some folks even think there’s blue lava. But guess what? The blue glow isn’t real lava. It’s the light from burning sulfur gases. These gases come out of the volcano really hot and high. When they meet the air, they light up like flames. Some turn into liquid sulfur, and it looks like lava flowing down the volcano. Nighttime is the best for the blue glow.
Getting there is an adventure, taking 1.5 hours uphill. The brave miners climb down into the volcano with heavy baskets. These baskets weigh around 70 to 80 kilos of sulfur!
Now, here’s the kicker! All this mining has its consequences. Chemicals used in the mining process can potentially affect the water quality of the river connected to Ijen’s lake. The lake’s water flows into a river, polluting it with acid and metals. While Kawah Ijen is undeniably pretty and thrilling, we’ve got to be cautious and take care of it!
Overall, Kawah Ijen is a remarkable and unforgettable place to explore. It’s worth to visit!
